BUSINESS STRATEGIES AND MULTIFUNCTIONALITY IN AGRICULTURE Multifunctionality in agriculture is the object of particular attention by the farming and institutional world, convinced that it represents a great opportunity for employment and the increase in farm budgets, and indirectly promoting the production of positive externalities for the revitalisation of rural areas. Today’s new production activities and services made accessible to the agricultural sector require the rethinking of business functions and the adoption of new strategies that can no longer be those traditionally used, but which must be oriented to the search for a new balance in conditions of permanent dynamicity. The purpose of our survey is to highlight a methodology of economic analysis that leads to the differentiation of the contribution of ancillary activities compared to traditional ones in the farm balance sheets, quantifying their importance and the role they may have in guaranteeing continuity and development for the agricultural sector. The accounting data gathered in the study involves two groups of zootechnical farms, with and without ancillary activities, and from their comparison it is possible to express an assessment of the strategies adopted by different farm businesses in identifying the best solutions offering prospects and development for their farms.
